An incredibly rich vein section from the Manhattan district of Nevada. All but 3 surfaces have been sawn and partially polished, showing off the gold. Total weight is 119 grams, and the specimen could easily be 50% gold by weight.

This prospect was mined for use as color pigments. A small batch of well formed crystals was found during mining in the 1980s, and this piece was one from that lot.

This 3 dimensional gold specimen exhibits the buttery yellow color typical of golds from the oxidized zone. Important textures include rhombohedral patterns to the leaves that is explained by gold growing along calcite cleavage planes. On top of the leaves are numerous gold crystals with cubic and octahedral crystal faces.

This gold is typical of the intermediate zone located between the oxidized and sulfide ore. As with many Round Mountain golds, there are stacked cubes which have twinned off the primary leaf.

Some golds from Round Mountain require very little cleaning. This specimen had only a small amount of sericite clay that was washed off in order to expose these large hoppered octahedral crystals on the edge of the leaves.

An unusual example of fluorite with two distinctly different sized crystals on the same specimen. The larger crystals are up to 2.5 cm and highly modified.
