ML00595 - Gold with Galena & Pyrrhotite
980' Level, Kensington Mine, Berners Bay, Alaska, USA
miniature - 4.8 x 4.7 x 3.4 cm
$ 500.00
The original Kensington Mine ceased operations in 1928. The mine is now currently in production having secured permits for operations in 2005. This specimen was collected in April of 1993, presumably by someone doing exploration in the area. I visited the mine site in 1987, and collected samples at the surface that ran 2 oz/ton, but never saw any visible gold. In fact, this is the only visible gold specimen I have ever seen available from the mine.
