ML00326 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 6.7 x 3.5 x 2.3 cm
$ 14500.00 (=~ AUS$ 22734.75)

This large gold is a compact mass of intergrown gold crystals, many of which exhibit spinel law twinning.

ML00327 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 5.3 x 3.6 x 2.5 cm
$ 7500.00 (=~ AUS$ 11759.35)

At first glance, one sees some shiny leaves completly covered with gold crystals. Upon closer inspection, one realzies that most of these crystals are well formed cubes, the larger of which are up to 0.5 cm on edge. Looking at this specimen, it is hard to believe that cubic gold is actually a rare occurance.

ML00328 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
miniature - 3.9 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm
$ 3000.00 (=~ AUS$ 4703.74)

This gold is typical of the intermediate zone located between the oxidized and sulfide ore. As with many Round Mountain golds, there are stacked cubes which have twinned off the primary leaf.

ML00329 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 7.5 x 7.3 x 1.7 cm
$ 11000.00 (=~ AUS$ 17247.05)

This "stellar" piece is a very heavy leaf thickly covered with large crystals exhibiting both cubic and octahedral crystal habits.

ML00330 - Gold & Quartz
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 8.0 x 5.7 x 4.5 cm
$ 25000.00 (=~ AUS$ 39197.85)

This large matrix gold shows textbook epimorphic leaf growth along the previous rhombohedral calcite crystal planes. Second generation crystal growth sprouting off of the leaves adds texture and relief in the form of cube and octahedral gold faces.

ML00334 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 5.9 x 3.6 x 1.6 cm
$ 15000.00 (=~ AUS$ 23518.71)

The undulatory nature of this golf leaf is the result of distortion within the vein due to Basin and Range faulting. The net result is that the lustrous twinned crystals along the face of the leaf reflect light sequentially as the specimen is rotated. This is one of my all time favorite specimens from the mine.

ML00335 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 6.1 x 3.4 x 2.5 cm
$ 9000.00 (=~ AUS$ 14111.23)

These heavy leaves stand up nicely off the matrix. Stout spinel law twin and cube-octahedron crystals grow both between the leaves.

ML00336 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
miniature - 3.9 x 2.0 x 0.8 cm
$ 1400.00 (=~ AUS$ 2195.08)

Some golds from Round Mountain require very little cleaning. This specimen had only a small amount of sericite clay that was washed off in order to expose these large hoppered octahedral crystals on the edge of the leaves.

ML00338 - Gold
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
miniature - 4.5 x 4.0 x 2.9 cm
$ 10000.00 (=~ AUS$ 15679.14)

Two intersecting leaves are surrounded by an amazing number of cubic gold crystals. Individual cubes measure up to 6mm on edge, but it appears to me that these are actually hoppered growth of a cubic crystal that is closer to 2cm on edge.

ML00350 - Gold
Olinghouse Mine, Washoe County, Nevada, USA
small cabinet - 5.5 x 4.1 x 2.9 cm
$ 1500.00 (=~ AUS$ 2351.87)

A classic example of Olinghouse gold. Lustrous leaves up to 1cm long occur on this thin quartz veinlet accented by epidote alteration along the vein.

ML00351 - Gold
Ace of Diamonds Mine, Liberty, Kittitas County, Washington, USA
miniature - 3.4 x 2.3 x 1.3 cm
$ 4500.00 (=~ AUS$ 7055.61)

A 23.6 gram mass of intergrown herringbone crystals. A very good example from a highly sought after location that produced a very limited number of good specimens.

ML00376 - Gold
Verespatak, Siebenburgen, Romania
small cabinet - 5.7 x 4.7 x 2.9 cm
$ 8000.00 (=~ AUS$ 12543.31)

Close inspection of the gold reveals great textures. The leaves are covered with triangular twinned crystals. Additionally, there are abundant thin crystals that resemble wires, however are likely elongate spinel twins. There are small pyrite crystals in the matrix. The fine-grained black druse has not been analyzed, but it looks suspiciously similar to telluride material.

Ex John Marshall collection.

Sesame Vein, Itogon Mine, Baguio, Luzon, Philippine Islands
small cabinet - 8.0 x 6.5 x 3.5 cm
$ 2500.00 (=~ AUS$ 3919.78)

Itogon is one of the Philippines oldest mining hubs, with known gold panning activity stretching back to before the 17th-century Spanish colonial conquest.
