ML00747 - Pyrite
Nanisivik Mine, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada

A cluster of pyrite cubes from Nanisivik, a Zn-Pb mine located 750km north of the Arctic Circle. About half of the cubes have a secondary growth of highly lustrous pyrite displaying beveled edges on the cubes. Fun fact; many of the pockets from this mine were frozen solid with ice, and once chipped out needed defrosting to see what mineral specimens they held.

A single striated quartz crystal with vitreous luster partially coated in dolomite crystals, which in turn are peppered with lustrous brown scheelite octahedrons. A good example of greisen style mineralization from Yaogangxian.

Here is a great locality piece for the quartz collector. Glassy smoky quartz with striations on the prism faces and growth hillocks on the terminal faces. Self collected in 2006 by Scott Werschky while in Northern Alaska consulting and mapping for a potential platinum project.
