Chlorargyrite is a secondary silver chloride mineral that occurs in the oxidation zone of silver ores. The Coeur d'Alene District was one of Idaho's most productive mining districts, producing primarily silver and lead ores, with smaller deposits hosting gold and copper.

The lead-zinc-silver mines of Sardinia have been mined since the bronze age. The green anglesite specimens have long been considered European classics, with specimens very difficult to obtain.
