DZ4209 - Opal var. Hyalite
Zacatecas, Mexico
miniature - 4.9 x 4.5 x 4.3 cm
$ 250.00 DISCOUNTED 30.00% OFF TO $ 175.00 SOLD
I love these specimens! The opal has a faint yellow green hue to it, and like most hyalite specimens, is strongly fluorescent under UV light. What sets these apart is the presence of trace amounts amounts of the Uranyl (UO2) molecule, which causes daylight fluoresence. These hit the market a few years ago, and people soon realized there was more value in them as jewlrey rather than specimens, making good pieces hard to come by.

A mass of thin curly silver wires eminate from a base of solid acanthite with some blue copper staining. Little bits of calcite can be seen both in the matrix and with the wires, suggesting that this may actually be a legitamite specimen and not grown in an oven like so many of the Moroccan pieces.
