DZ4507 - Epidote

While most epidotes from the Green Monster Mine are blocky crystals, one pocket was encountered with radiating sprays of lustrous green epidote. The unique part is due to the lighter green tips with better transparency, coined "Jackstraw".

This gold is charactarized by an undulatory leaf (resultant from tectonic deformation within the vein) highlighted by cube octahedral crystals twinned off the main leaf. Small quartz crystals on the matrix compliment the gold.

Anyone who has frequented Tucson over the last 20 years has seen thousands of Cinnabar specimens from China. This one is set apart from the masses by its beautiful twinning, razor sharp crystals, and very high luster. It is contrasted well on its quartz and dolomite matrix. With backlighting, the translucency shows with great red color.
